![]() Mono and stereo are what you would expect. The drivers are able to deliver, mono, stereo and three different levels of panoramic audio. There are multiple listening modes, which is where the real magic happens. Black cloth covers the drivers, which are positioned at the front and on both sides so they’re able to provide 270 degrees of audio. The company has a high power Class-D amplifier inside and it’s driving an array of six drivers: four 3.5-inch aluminum diaphragm woofers, and a pair of Air Motion Transformer tweeters. Brad Moon Big Sound Out of a Compact PackageĬonsidering it has the footprint of a turntable, the Model One is capable of producing some very impressive audio. The turntable is equipped with an upgradeable Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge. So, not really practical to be listening to 78s, unless you do so for extended periods of time, but certainly possible. It can also be used to play 78 RPM records, if you manually swap a belt and switch to an optional Ortofon 2M78 stylus. It handles 33 and 45 RPM records (with easy switching between speeds). It includes high end features like a carbon fiber tone arm, and an acrylic platter. This is based on Pro-Ject’s highly regarded Debut Carbon Esprit SB. It takes things to the next level with its built-in turntable. The Model One already raised the bar over mass market all-in-one systems with its attractive design and beautiful walnut cabinet. Model One Includes an Integrated Pro-Ject Carbon Espirit SB Turntable I was able to spin a record and crank up the volume without feedback or distortion creeping in. Whatever bracing and damping is going in within the Model One’s cabinet as part of that IsoGroove design, it is effective. I’ve seen this in action before with the company’s SpinBase speaker system for turntables ( you can read my review here), and it works as advertised. Andover addresses this concern with the use of its proprietary IsoGroove technology. Speakers cause a lot of vibration, and vibration is the enemy when it comes to listening to records. Jamming speakers into a cabinet with a turntable (especially high powered speakers) can end very poorly.Īll-in one systems can be plagued by resonance, feedback and in extreme cases records can skip. Especially when a turntable is part of the system. Not everyone has the space or budget for a component stereo system. There has always been a demand for all-in-one audio systems. And they pulled out all the stops on this one. That was a very good system, but Andover is now focused on releasing systems under its own brand. are welcome. If the approach seems familiar, that's because the Andover Audio design team was behind the +RECORD PLAYER I reviewed last year. ![]() On strictly performance basis, I can't recommend the Andover Songbird.Īs always, questions, comments, recommendations, etc. There is nothing top hang my had on performance wise. Even if its internal DAC didn't perform well, we could use an external DAC with it but that path is neutered somehow as well. Either way, this could have been a killer device. Or maybe it is a good IC but poorly implemented. But where is the performance? Maybe they are using some smart speaker IC used for mass market devices with who cares about performance specification. And at a great price with good packaging. You get an input selector, DAC, digital in and out and streaming. The functionality behind the Songbird id quite nice. ![]() I used the same cable as Toslink out so can't be the cabling. I also tried to test Toslink in but it simply would not work.
